CSK vs RCB IPL 2024 | The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) started with a cracker of a contest. RCB faced CSK at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, as Ruturaj Gaikwad led his team to their first win.

RCB has continued its losing streak in Chennai and has yet to find a win in Chepauk. Batting first, RCB set a target of 174 runs. Anuj Rawat scored a blistering 48, coupled with Faf Du Plessis’ 35-run exploit early on. CSK Debutant Mustafizur Rahman picked four wickets.

CSK chased the 175-run target in under 19 overs as Rachin Ravindra shined on his IPL debut. The Kiwi scored a 15-ball 37 to set things up for the defending champions. Ravi Jadeja and Shivam Dube played calmly at the death to ensure CSK started their title-defence journey with a win.

CHENNAI BEAT BENGALURU BY SIX WICKETS! The season-opener goes to the defending champions. Ruturaj’s Captaincy debut ends in a win, as Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja do the job for CSK. The southpaw duo hold their nerves amidst all the short deliveries at the death to clinch the victory for the Yellow Army. RCB’s bowlers have given way too many freebies in this game, and their concerns for the rest of the season are evident already.

11:28 PM: CSK 128-4 (15)

We have our final CEAT Tyres Strategic Time-Out of the day. RCB has been picking wickets at will, owing to instability in the Super Kings’ runchase. Shivam Dube and Ravi Jadeja – the two left-handers – are on the pitch and will face the likes of Alzarri Joseph and Mohammad Siraj at the death. Cam Green does the trick for RCB, yet again! The 17.5 Crores looks like a bargain at the moment. The Aussie picks up Mitchell early on after dismissing Rahane. 11:00 PM: CSK 92-2 (10)

At the halfway stage, RCB has added 92 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets. Rachin Ravindra played a useful cameo of 37 off 15, and the hosts have a partnership building between Daryl Mitchell and Ajinkya Rahane. The duo has added 23 runs for the third wicket so far. With 82 runs required off the last 10, CSK is in pole position to win this encounter from here.

The batting powerplays of the IPL 2024 season-opener are finally over. The hosts are 19 runs ahead of where their opposition was at the end of six overs. Having a headstart, Ajinkya Rahane and Rachin Ravindra hope to build on the powerplay. Yash Dayal and Mohammad Siraj have done a bit of suitable for the visitors, but what do the RCB spinners have in store at a rank-turner like Chepauk?

The Super Kings are back for the run chase, and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad leads the way alongside Rachin Ravindra. With 174 to chase, the CSK batters have their tasks cut out from the word go. The RCB bowling unit, the side’s supposed weak link, would have to work their socks off to defend the score.

9:45 PM: RCB 173-6 (20)

RCB clawed their way back into the game courtesy of an Anuj Rawat masterclass. The visitors ended their 20 overs at 173/6. Rawat and Karthik gave their bowlers something to defend. The youngster was just two short of a brilliant half-century, getting run out on the final ball. From 78-5 to 173-6, the sixth-wicket partnership has worked wonders for the Challengers at the Chepauk.

9:15 PM: RCB 116-5 (16)

The Super Kings have pulled back things, as the visitors need to capitalize on a solid start. That being said, both Rawat and Karthik have looked in good touch and would hope to end with a flourish. The visitors added 40 runs in the last six overs, something they would expect to add in the next four.

8:47 PM: RCB 75-3 (10)

At the halfway stage, RCB has added 75 runs for losing three wickets. Kohli and Green have steadied the ship, adding 33 runs since the end of the powerplay. Both players are looking in good touch, and RCB hopes that these two will carry on much longer.

8:31 PM: END OF POWERPLAY, RCB 42-3 (6)

The first powerplay of IPL 2024 is over. It was a tale of two halves. RCB dominated the proceedings for the first four overs, with Faf du Plessis looking very dangerous. However, Mustafizur Rahman pulled momentum back in favor of the home side by dismissing the South African and Rajat Patidar in the same over. Deepak Chahar sent Glenn Maxwell back for a golden duck. Virat Kohli and Cameron Green have a lot of rebuilding left to do. Can the duo bail RCB out of this tricky situation, or will CSK further impose their authority?

8:22 PM: The first wicket of IPL 2024 falls

Mustafizur Rahman dismisses the ominous-looking Faf du Plessis for 35. Fizz rolled out a slower one, and Faf tried to go over the infield on the offside but only managed to find the man at deep point. It was a brilliant catch from new signing Rachin Ravindra. “The square boundaries are 65m and 66m respectively, and the straight boundary is long at 80m. It looks like a great wicket, but there are a few cracks, and the looseness around the cracks is worrying; it could lead to some inconsistent bounce, but it’s generally looking good. The ball will turn, and there’s some dampness so that the spinners can use that. Dew could be a factor; the captain winning the toss would want to bowl first.”
